NO HINDERANCE
Keith Squires
This week’s topic is wanting nothing to hinder our relationship with God and being motivated to build on our walk with Him through Bible study and prayer.
Remember when we, as Christians, came to accept Christ as our Lord and Savior? I do, and I don’t believe it was something done on a whim. I believe that God had touched our hearts during whatever circumstances we were in at the time.
Remember the joy and excitement you felt acknowledging Christ as your Savior and Redeemer, and the overwhelming love you felt coming up from the waters of Baptism and needing more?
I don’t know about you, but I wanted to hold on to that feeling of closeness to God and I needed to figure out what to do next to keep it. In Hebrews 10:22 it says: “let us draw near to God with a sincere heart…” and that is what I wanted/needed to do.
Luckily I had some great friends who were already strong in their Christian walk. They directed me to Bible study groups and showed me, by example, the joy of staying in His word through reading and prayer. Those acts, as simple as they sound, fueled that desire I had to get closer to Him.
Many passages in the Bible reference prayer, and also fellowship with other believers. If your desire is to draw closer to God in your daily walk, then the next steps should make perfect sense: read and study His word, and connect with like minded people to glean from their knowledge, compassion, and love.
Getting closer to Him means being a part of His love and His family.
